This week we have been working hard to band the many shorebirds whose nests we have found. Here Brian Harrington, Manomet’s shorebird expert emeritus, is sharing his extensive banding knowledge and experience with the crew.
Invertebrate Sampling
Heather and I are setting out to place invertebrate sampling bottles. We will be collecting samples throughout the season so that we can measure the productivity of tundra ponds for phalaropes as part of a study of climate change impacts in the Arctic.

My wife Metta McGarvey, a stalwart member of our crew renowned for her tundra culinary expertise as well as her birding skills, accompanies me to the Arctic whenever her schedule allows. Here she is banding a Pectoral Sandpiper.
